An easy short hike, then a river rock scramble up to rarely-visited 120 foot Gorton Creek Falls.
From I-84, take Wyeth exit 51. Turn into Wyeth campground, then follow trailhead signs straight back to the trail parking area. A NW Forest Pass (or $5) is required here. After .2 mile, continue straight ahead through a 4-way trail junction. After another .3 mile, the path peters out at the edge of Gorton Creek. You can't see the falls yet, but they are about 600 feet up the creek and around the bend. Here at the edge of the creek, start your rock-hopping and scrambling up the river! Creek crossings may be necessary to find the best route. Just plan on getting wet! At the time of cache placement, only our feet got wet (well, it really depends on your route). - DON'T do this cache alone! Although the scramble is a short distance, it would be very easy to turn an ankle! - Wear sturdy hiking boots.- A hiking staff may prove helpful to aid balance.Ok, now for the coordinates. We had lock on only 2 satellites. But here's the good news... hints! Go clear up to the pool at the base of the falls. The cache is under a boulder on the east side of the creek by the splash pool. EDIT: The cache is uphill from the old location about 15 feet hidden in the same manner as before. We suggest taking the "new" spoiler photo with you, as we don't want you to go up there and not find the cache! You're looking for a .50 caliber ammo can. PLEASE rehide it well.
