This VIRTUAL Geocache is located in the St. Anthony Falls Historic
District. Since the lighting in the area is very good, this site
can be visited day or night. It is also handicap-accessible.
Even though there isn't a stash, there is a payoff to this
virtual cache. At these coordinates, there's a historical marker.
The first word printed on the marker is a password. Go to
Hotmail and log in as
heart_of_mpls@hotmail.com using the password. If you can get in,
reply to the congratulatory message.
It has been pointed out the the coordinates may be a bit
misleading, depending on the accuracy of your device and
conditions. Rest assured that this cache is NOT in the river.
Historical and other data about the area:
In 1680, Father Louis Hennepin discovered what the local Native
Americans had known for centuries (perhaps millenia) - that there's
a waterfall on the Mississippi river! After the area was opened for
settlement in the mid-1800's, development at the falls rapidly
escalated. Water power from the falls was used to mill lumber and
grain. In 1869, the falls were undermined by an attempt to tunnel
under the river. To preserve what's left of the falls, they are
covered with a protective apron.
