Description:
Welcome to Ellendale, DE: "Gateway to Delaware's Resort Beaches". Ellendale is a small town with some big history, nestled between swamp land dividing the Atlantic coast and the Chesapeake Bay. Early settlers were the Nanticoke and later Lenape Indians. In the 18th century the surrounding woods served as hideouts for criminals and loyalists during the Revolutionary War. Later, the construction of a railroad line and the DuPont Highway (Rt. 113) brought economic prosperity to the town of roughly 300.
