Geocache Description:

Every dog will have his day

The listed coordinates are not the location of the cache (see below). This is a Theme multi-cache. The terrain rating applies to the main cache.

Woof! This hunt will take you to various parks around Pleasanton where people have been known to walk their dogs. The total distance is about five miles. All parks close at dusk.

Each of the first four legs is a micro-cache marked with a random 10 digit number. You will use the numbers to get the coordinates for the next cache using simple arithmetic.

Note: No tools are necessary to access the caches.

The main cache is a 1 gallon snap-lid plastic jar. Bring appropriate trade items for the theme (i.e. doggie stuff) but don't leave dog food... the idea here is for the people to find the cache

A lot of civilians pass through these areas, so please:
  • Be discreet while searching for the caches
  • Replace each cache so that it's concealed
Use this number to find the first cache:
      7 5 0 6 4 3 7 1 5 9
      A B C D E F G H I J

Leg #1: {E}{H}.{A-B}{G+H}{F} {B}{D-E}.{B+F}{H}{I}

Leg #2: {A*D}{G-I}.{E}{C-A}{B} {E-H}{J-F}.{D}{G}{A}

Leg #3: {A+H}{H-D}.{G}{B}{F*H} {J-E}{A}.{I-C}{J}{F}

Leg #4: {J-A}{F}.{H}{A}{I} {E+I}{E*B}.{D}{A+C}{G}

Main Cache: {A}{E+J}.{F}{D-I}{B} {F-J}{G}.{I+H}{C}{H-J}

The main cache was originally stocked with the following items:
  • Cache identification letter.
  • Log book and pen.
  • First To Find cache card with gold star pin.
  • "Dog Cacher" T-shirt (Large).
  • Puppy figurine.
  • Springer Spaniel.
  • 3 doggie tennis balls (1 with tug strap).
  • Blue choke-chain.
  • "The only person who understands me is my DOG" key ring.
  • Fake dog poop.
  • "Stumpy the Wonder Turtle" travel bug.

Dog Years FAQ
(Frequently Asked Questions)

  1. What does Dog Years mean?

    a) In the context of this cache, a Dog is the common name for any of a large variety of Canis familiaris familiaris (Genus species subspecies).
    b) A Year is the period of time required for the earth to make one complete revolution around the sun (equal to 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 45.51 seconds).
    c) In a dog's life, a year is really more like seven. So a Dog Year is equal to one-seventh of a people year, or about seven-and-a-half people weeks.

  2. What kind of Canis familiaris familiaris do you have?

    I don't have a dog.

  3. What am I supposed to do with the number from the micro-cache?

    The first digit represents A (the second digit B, etc) in the coordinates for the next cache (the new number replaces the previous number).

  4. Can you give me a hint for Leg #1?

    Where a barrier changes direction.
    (Fznyy zntargvp zvpeb)

  5. I found Leg #1, but where are the numbers?

    LOOK.
    (Do not attempt to disassemble the cache)

  6. Can you give me a hint for Leg #2?

    It's hanging around...
    (Ybbx bire, ernpu qbja, envfr hc)

  7. Can you give me a hint for Leg #3?

    This is a good place to rest and decrypt the long Additional Hint at the bottom of the page.
    (Gel glvat lbhe fubrf)

  8. I found something at the coordinates for Leg #3, but I didn't find any numbers... Is Leg #3 missing?

    What was found most likely is the micro-cache... or more accurately: "nano-cache".
    (Open it)

  9. Can you give me a hint for Leg #4?

    It's underfoot or overhead.
    (Ybbx nobir gur fznyy qbt fgvpxre)

  10. Can you give me a hint for the Main Cache?

    Head for the high ground.
    (Gur geniry oht cynprq jvgu guvf pnpur jnf anzrq Fghzcl)

  11. I found the Main Cache but technically it's a 120 fluid-ounce jar which is 0.9375 gallon (not 1 gallon as you stated).

    OK, you got me... but technically that isn't a question :-)
