This cache has been archived.

Let's Look Over Thayer: I hate to see this one go since it was the first cache that I placed, but all good things must come to an end. [:(]

Geocache Description:

The objective is to locate the Cache of Cammocles. Parking can be found very close by. This is a log-only micro-cache. Bring a pen/pencil. Please replace everything as you found it. Please be careful and do not drop anything.

There once was a king whose name was Gipionysius. He was a tyrant. He knew that almost everybody hated him, and he lived in dread that someone would archive his life.

But he was very rich, and he lived in a fine palace surrounded by flag pins, miniature footballs, cheap compasses, carabiners and geckos. He was waited upon by a host of Cache Seekers who were always ready to do his bidding. One day a friend of his, Cammocles, said to him, "How happy you must be! You have everything that any man could wish."

"Perhaps you would like to trade places with me?" said the tyrant.

"No, not that, O great king!" said Cammocles; "but if I could only have your flag pins, miniature footballs, cheap compasses, carabiners and geckos for one day, I would be the happiest man alive."

"Very well," said the tyrant. "You shall have them."

And so, the next day, Cammocles was led into the palace, and all the Cache Seekers were commanded to treat him as their king. He sat down on a throne made of ammo cans, and all that he could want was placed before him. There were flag pins, miniature footballs, cheap compasses, carabiners and, yes, the finest geckos ever seen. Cammocles felt that he was the happiest man in the entire world.

Then he chanced to raise his eyes toward the ceiling. What was it that was dangling above him? It was a cache and it was hung by only a single horsehair. What if the hair should break? It could do so at any moment.

The smile faded from the lips of Cammocles. His face went white. His hands shook. He wanted no more flag pins or miniature footballs or cheap compasses or carabiners. He took no more delight in the finest geckos ever seen.

"What is the matter?" said the tyrant.

"That cache! That cache!" cried Cammocles. He was so badly frightened that he dared not move.

"Yes," said Gipionysius, "I know there is a cache above your head, and that it may fall at any moment. But why should that trouble you? I have a cache over my head all the time. I live in dread that something may cause me to be prematurely archived."

"I now see that I was mistaken" said Cammocles. "Let me go back to being poor old Cammocles.” And as long as he lived, he never again wanted to change places with the king. (But he did sneak out from time to time for an occasional flag pin or gecko.)
