Charlie Brown Christmas
If you've seen this classic Christmas show, you know
that Lucy, "The Christmas Queen" in the Christmas play, sends
Charlie Brown on a mission to find a tree for the play. In doing
so, our hero ultimately discovers the true meaning of
Christmas.
Die Weihnachtsgurke
There is some dispute about the true origins of the
purportedly German tradition of die Weihnachtsgurke.
As the story goes, it is an old world German tradition to
hide a pickle deep in the branches of the family Christmas tree.
Whichever child found the pickle would receive an extra gift
from St. Nicholas. Sounds quaint enough, except that there is
no indication that it is an actual tradition in Germany. Ask
a German about the Christmas pickle and they'll look at you with
incredulity. Nevertheless, it has become part of Christmas lore,
and one German Christmas ornament company, Lauscha, has profited
from it by exporting glass pickle ornaments to the United States
along with the story of die Weihnachactsgurke.
Your mission
You begin your hunt by searching for a tree, and
progress to each stage until you find the right one. Each of
the trees you find has a "pickle." The trick is finding the right
tree, and the "pickle."
To begin, go to the posted coordinates and face east. You
will see two large numbers, one on the left and one on the
right. To find the first tree, perform the following
functions:
- Multiply the number on the left by 2 and add to that product
the number on the right. This will be your bearing to the
first tree.
- Multiply the number on the right by 11. This is the
number of feet to the first tree.
The tops of the "pickle caches" are attached to the tree at
each stage, simply unscrew the body from the top to open the cache
and receive your instructions.
