One Equals Two Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Rogue Ramblers: This puzzle is a bit too out-of-the-box for some, resulting sometimes in rather strong negative emotions, and hasn't exactly gotten rave reviews from the others. So instead of keeping it going it's time for One to become None.

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the coordinates posted above, but is located no more than one or two miles away. You must solve the puzzle below to determine the correct location for this cache.

Several years ago, a math teacher showed me how a few simple equations could be used to "prove" that one equals two:

1. y = x
2. y * x = x2
3. y * x - y2 = x2 - y2
4. y * (x - y) = (x + y) * (x - y)
5. y = (x + y)
6. y = y + y
7. 1 = 2

Can you spot the mistake?
