It begins in a village headman of Hongo-mura having done Fuji Asama shrine of Suruga Kanjiyo in (1573), the ground of current Tokyo University in the Tensho era first year.
When the Kaga Maedas had a daimyo's mansion (1628) in the ground for Kanei era five years, moved Asama shrine to the present location.
There was the front shrine on the mountain which likened to Mt. Fuji, and it was it with the one of the footholds of the Fuji faith for Edo period.
A night stall is released for opening of the mountaineering season of the beginning of July from the end of June and shows turnout.

本郷村の名主が天正元年(1573)、現在の東京大学の地に駿河の富士浅間社を勧請したことにはじまる。
寛永5年(1628)加賀前田家が上屋敷をその地に賜るにあたり、浅間社を現在地に移した。
拝殿は富士山に見立てた山の上にあり、江戸期の富士信仰の拠点の一つとなった。
6月末から7月はじめの山開きには夜店が出てにぎわいを見せる。
