Geocache Description:

As a Team we enjoy the placing of caches. However this cache is being placed for two entirely different reasons. One half of our team the Turkey Red half to be exact has a sick obsession with old cemeteries and death. The other half the Timbalina half has an inquisitive and respectful mind about old cemeteries. So when we stumbled upon this one we knew it had to be cached.

We came across this cemetery while out Geocaching one day and
couldn’t pass it by. Something drew us in and then kept us there.
Abner Thorp originally drew us in as the cemetery is named after
him. It turns out he lived a very exciting life. According to his
headstone he was a friend of the father of our country but also
played a significant part in the capture of one James Smith in Feb
1779. He fought in the Revolutionary war. The grave site is located
on the grounds in which he owned a retirement estate. Six
tombstones were believed to have been stolen from the cemetery at
the time of the 1976 bicentennial celebration. So we did a little
research on the guy. We kept remembering however that there was a family
with the last name of Woolley in the Abner Thorp Cemetery. With the
obsession now fed again Team Turkalina was on the hunt for old
cemeteries in the area. Which led us to many more; all dating back
to the 1700’s.That is when we realized that the name Woolley kept
appearing. So the search on Abner was completed Team Turkalina has
begun to piece together the family lineage of the Woolley’s. This
is the first in hopefully many of our Cemetery Series. We parked in the service road many times with no issue and you won't be there too long anyway but this one can also be done with the rest of the caches that are hidden around the reservoir. Congrats to Druidsdream for the FTF!
