This cache is at the site of the former Star and Garter Inn on the Mearns Road.
This is another cache in the series based on interesting features we have seen on maps. In this case it was just the name that was intriguing.
From the East Renfrewshire Portal on the Past website, (visit link) :
"The new road from Glasgow to Kilmarnock, which was completed in 1832, ran through Eastwood Toll (then known as Nellie's Toll)) to the Newton and crossed the Old Kilmarnock Road at Loganswell. It became the main road through the area, drawing trade to the Newton and Malletsheugh and away from Mearnskirk. An inn then opened at Malletsheugh, while on the Old Road the Star and Garter Inn closed and became a farm.
The Star and Garter was a former coaching inn and is now a private house."
The cache is placed on the opposite side of the road to the buildings in question. Take care on the road.
