Geocache Description:

This is on the section of the Horseshoe Trail between Fairview Rd. and Prizer Rd. Steep ups and downs! Follow the yellow blazes.

The cache is actually about thirty feet off an established unblazed side trail, so turn off the HST as you come nearer.

One of the striking trees in the woods is the Oak Tree. Red oaks have leaves with pointed lobes. White oaks have leaves with rounded lobes. The Red Oak grows straight and tall, to 90 ft. and even up to 140 feet. The trunk is up 20–40 inches in diameter. It has stout branches growing at right angles to the stem, forming a narrow round-topped head. Trees may live up to 500 years but none along the Horseshoe Trail are so old!

You are looking for a Red Oak Tree and the cache which it protects, a short bushwack off a side trail.

The host tree is conspicuous and has many crevices and openings around its base at ground level. Just find the right one! The coordinates may be bouncy so expand your search if needed.
