The mastodon bones are an overhang where bones of early animals are nicely preserved. One can see jaws and skulls of many animals imbedded in the ceiling of the overhang. The site is located at N 27 12.120 E 48 10.500
Leave the main tarmac road at N 27 13.695 E 48 24.974. Drive west for about 24.5km on a dirt road to the bone deposits. Jon Carter referred to this site but the coordinates published in his book are not pointing to this location. I followed the coordinates mentioned in Mekshat.com which was slightly more accurate than those in Aramco DGS newsletter (OilDrop).
The posted coordinates are for the cache itself which is located 400m south of the overhang and is hidden in a hollow triangular rock. The site can be reached easily with 2WD cars but the last 1km (as you turn off to the overhang from the main dirt road) can be sandy at places unless you follow the many desert tracks.
