As a breed greyhounds are thought to be more than 4000 years
old. Images of them can be seen on pottery and found in the
hieroglyphs of the pyramids. There have even been mummified remains
of greyhounds found with the remains of their owners.
It is believed that greyhounds were introduced to England in the
5th or 6th century. They were bred by the clergy as hunting dogs
and were considered to be the dogs of the aristocracy. Commoners
caught owning a greyhound would be punished and, as nobility valued
these dogs higher than commoners, killing a greyhound was
punishable by death. Congrats!

Spaniards were the first to bring greyhounds to the new world.
There were even some greyhounds in North America during colonial
times. However the major influx of the breed to North America
occurred during the mid-1800's and was used to help eliminate an
epidemic of rabbits that were ruining farms in the Midwest.
Competing with greyhounds began with "coursing" which can briefly
be described as an open field chase between two dogs, one rabbit
and spectators following on horseback. Competition quickly moved
from the open field to the closed track and in 1912 the rabbit was
eliminated and replaced with a mechanical lure. Greyhound racing
has become a very popular spectator sport with millions of people
attending races each year and while doing so wagering billions of
dollars.
As a breed greyhounds are extremely fast, able to reach speeds of
forty-five miles per hour. Despite this speed and their love to
chase things they are not high-energy dogs. A twenty or thirty
minute walk each day will provide them with sufficient exercise.
They are mild animals who are quiet and gentle. You are looking for
a 1.8 quart lock and lock container. As always please use
appropriate stealth and rehide the cache as well or better than you
found it.
