1st Annual Cedar Rapids CITO
Extravaganza!
PRESENTED BY

Welcome to our first annual Cedar Rapids
Area CITO event: The Cedar Rapids CITO Extravaganza!
The plan for this annual event is to change locations each and
every year in an effort to keep the event fresh, fun, adventurous,
productive, and helpful to Cedar Rapids and surrounding
areas.
This year we'll be cleaning the park area along
the fence that borders Interstate 380 between 3rd Avenue and Wilson
Avenue SW on both the 3rd and L Street sides of the Interstate. We
will never get too close to I-380 as their will be a fence between
us and the interstate at all times. This area is safe for both
adults and children.
Heavy duty trash bags will be supplied and the
city will take care of garbage pick up once we're finished. All you
need to bring is yourself and the desire to help pick up litter
along a small area of our cache-friendly city. A large amount of
trash accumulates along this park area due to it being close to
I-380 and the amount of trash between "our" side of the fence and L
Street/3rd Street for CITO is uncanny. A lot of garbage bags will
be filled! Let's help keep Cedar Rapids (and surrounding areas)
clean for future geocaching and take this opportunity to say "thank
you" to the Cedar Rapids Parks Department for their continuous
support of geocaching in the community.
Everyone is welcome to attend the 1st
Annual Cedar Rapids CITO Extravaganza!
Please join us at 9:00AM on Saturday April
14th, 2007 at the park benches located
at the parking coordinates you see at the top of this page. Please
arrive between 8:45AM - 9:00AM to sign the log book and receive
garbage bags. The log book will be available at all times, so make
sure you sign it (this is a geocache afterall) to be eligable for
prizes at the end. The entire event is planned to run 9:00AM -
12:00PM, but could end slightly sooner or later depending on how
fast we clean the area. The area is good easy walking on level
ground mostly consisting of grass, but portions do have a sidewalk.
Drinking water will be provided at the park benches, but please
bring a beverage container if you want to carry water with you
during CITO. Latex gloves will be provided for anyone who needs
them, but we encourage you to bring your own heavy duty work gloves
if you have them.
After the event we will award prizes. To be
eligible you must sign the log book. There will be plenty of prizes
so be sure to stick around for the conclusion of the event. Please
continue to check this event webpage as we continue to update the
list of prizes.

Schedule for the day:
8:45AM -
9:00AM
Arrive at the posted coordinates and check
in/sign the logbook.
Pass out trash bags and latex gloves.
9:00AM - 12:00PM (or until the area is
done)
Clean the park area along the fence that
borders Interstate 380 between 3rd avenue and Wilson avenue SW on
both 3rd street and L street sides of the interstate. An efficiant
plan will be set in motion in order to clean up the area as quick
as possible. Please plan to walk/CITO for a 1/2 mile (.50). The
images below will give you an idea of the type of landscape/trash
to expect. Remember, we will be cleaning the area between the
street and the fence. Some spots are a lot more narrow and some
spots are a lot wider than in the picture shown. For smaller
children, we hope to have a flower planting project to help
brighten up the area even more! **Update:
Unfortunately, the flower planting project is no longer in the
plans.**
12:00PM - 12:30PM
Head back to the park bench area (posted coordinates at the
top of page) for prizes, thank you's, group photo (with all the
accumilated garbage), and event closure.
If you can't make it for the entire
event, feel free to come whenever you can to
help.
Thank you! We hope to see many
geocachers attend!
