Morningside Park in the Spring
9/6/03 - NOTE: Due to recent work on a nearby utility line that put the cache box in jeopardy, it was moved to another, nearby hiding place with new coordinates.
Morningside Heights is a little-known city park in the Syracuse University neighborhood. To learn more about this nearly secret spot, click here.
Enter the park from the gated service road near the corner of Berkley Drive and Broad Street. A shorter and much more interesting approach is from the empty lot on Morningside Terrace, a one-block street off Hertford Street. Hertford is off Lancaster Ave. near the Edward Smith Elementary School. After you walk across the small vacant lot between two houses, look to your left for an old stone stairway.
The cache is hidden on a hillside, so your GPS readings, like mine, may be a bit off. The hill will block some satellite signals. I took multiple readings, and used position averaging to get the numbers you see posted here. When you're finished signing the cache logbook, walk up to the top of the hill, and all the way around it, to enjoy several delightful views of Syracuse from the hilltop. Stay alert, and be careful not to trip over the water reservoirs!
