Geocache Description:

In the north-facing base of a large tree at the top of the knoll near the tip of the peninsula.

Winter warning: the ice here is never safe to cross. This lake is too close to LI Sound for a good freeze and too far from help for a chance of rescue. If you're hiking in, you'll see in the cache logs that there is a good bit of off trail bushwacking, probably 1/3 of the route. From the boat ramp, head eastwards on the trail along the northern shore of the lake until you come to a great view spot with a fire ring and a tree over the water. The trail bends inland from here and then follows the shore again about 100 yards above the lake. At the end of the little bay you'll find another fire ring. The off trail work starts here. You could turn westwards and just hug the shore some more, but there is easier going down the center of the peninsula. From the 2nd fire ring, head southwards/southwestwards until your gps puts you in the center of the peninsula. You'll find easier going along pretty well defined deer trails there. Enjoy!
