Namaste Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

nostrada: The cache is gone again. What looks like a secure place for a micro turns out to be a bottomless hole for cache containers. Someone or something takes them away. Time to go for this one - might bring it back one day with different coords. Thanks for all the finds.

Geocache Description:

Namaste

In Sanskrit "Namas" means, "bow, obeisance, reverential salutation." It comes from the root Nam, which carries meanings of bending, bowing, humbly submitting  and becoming silent. "Te" means "to you". Thus "namaste" means "I bow to you."

Definition of Yoga:
Yoga is a Sanskrit word meaning union or joining. In reality it's a very general term that encompasses many different disciplines, from the purely physical to the purely spiritual - and everything in between. But yoga needn't be confusing or complicated - in fact, its very essence is simplicity.

It was sometime between the fifth and second century B.C that a Sage by the name of Patanjali penned down this subject in his treatise the Yoga Darshana also known as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

The eight aspects (astanga) of yoga are:

yama / niyama

codes of moral and social conduct

asana

adjusting the body in various postures with the complete involvement of the mind, awareness and intelligence

pranayama

regulation and restraint of breath

pratyahara

relaxation and internalization of the senses of perception

dharana

concentration

dhyana

meditation

samadhi

the ultimate state of self realization

Of these, the first four are categorized as external quests or studies which can be taught; the remaining four are internal quests which are experiential states which can never been taught but only experienced.

The pretzel like bending postures most of us in the western societies associate with Yoga is therefore only a very small part of Yoga. It can be described as Hatha Yoga and B.K.S Iyengar is most influential in this area.

Finally we can start with the actual geocaching. The following Iyengar Yoga style poses need to be identified and their Sanskrit names analyzed. Google the name of the student who thought that Iyengar was also an excellent violin teacher.

The cache location is near the place where I have my weekly Yoga class. Being a perpetual beginner due to lack of exercise I attend the class for a moment of silence in my busy life. Coincidentally, it is also close to a place where you need an infinite amount of patience.

The cache is a standard 35mm micro and is not hidden on the ground.

Namaste.

Edit 09-04-03 - Yoga is not an exact science and web pages have conflicting information. Please refer to http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/ as a reference. I have also added a hint allowing you to verify your findings to a certain degree.

Edit 09-18-03 - Sorry for meddling with the page yet again, but I hope this version will alleviate the pain. Now go for it ;-)
