Geocache Description:

Right, I hope you lot appreciate this one, I was out in a howling blizzard and 4” of snow on Christmas Eve to get the series complete for the holidays. Anyway, it was wicked fun and sure beat last minute Christmas shopping!

This is part of a series of caches relating to primary and secondary colours. In this case I have taken the three primary colours to be red, blue and yellow. Then the three secondary colours, made up from pairs of primary colours are orange, green and purple. A mixture of all three of the primary (or all three of the secondary) colours leads to white and an absence of any colour is black.

The three primary colour caches are straightforward caches for which I have given you the actual coordinates of the cache (except for Red ‘cos it was too short). For each of the secondary colour caches you need to have visited both of the primary colour caches that you would need to mix together to get that colour to gain the requisite clues for that colour cache. i.e. to find the green cache you need to have found both the blue and yellow caches etc.

The bonus caches, the white and black ones require you to have found all the primary colour caches and then all the secondary colour caches because the sum of all these colours leads to white………….and the Black one was just an after-thought and I like it’s location and it’s a bit more of a challenge.

Please try and bring blue items to swap.

Parking - N55° 56.925’ W4° 23.708’

This is where I parked. It’s at the corner of a road with enough space for one car only. Please make sure you don’t block the gate. The road up is very rough in places so take it easy. I’m afraid this is cache takes you through some livestock fields so dogs may not be welcome and unless you’re OK with climbing fences you will have to skirt around the edge of the fields to find a gate. There must be a ‘proper’ route up as the reservoir is used for fishing.

Go through the gate and from here it’s only about 1½ klicks in a straight line. But of course you can’t go in a straight line. I recommend you go up to the top of the hill above the hanging stone, (either on the way up or on the way back) that way you’ll get the best view to the East. From here you can see the location of my yellow cache. Here you also get an excellent view of the planes coming in from that direction and flying over the west of the city into the airport. There is a really good hiding place under the rock above the hanging rock but that would have been too easy. The view over the city is excellent, if you like that kind of thing.

Once you’ve negotiated Maidens Paps (see comment in Yellow cache!) you can approach the cache by going either clockwise or anti-clockwise around Jaw Reservoir. There’s not much difference in the distance though the terrain is quite different. I would recommend a circular route whichever way round you go. The ground slopes steeply down to the loch here so take care. The cache is only a few meters down from the high point, not on the really steep bit near the water. Please make sure the box is replaced well up into it’s hidey-hole. If anyone could pick up the odd stick or rock to help camouflage it that would be appreciated, I couldn’t find any in the snow!

So overcome your Christmas blues (sic) and go walk off that turkey dinner. If you get there quick you will be able to follow my footprints in the snow straight to it!

Happy Christmas to you all and good caching in 2005.
