Geocache Description:

Hofskirkja

Original text from the sign in
front of the church:

"The church was built in 1884,
and was the last turf church built in the old style. It is one of six churches
still standing, which are preserved as historical monuments. The church is
maintained by the National Museum but also serves as a parish church. The church
was built by the carpenter Páll Pállson. The lock and hinges of the church door
were made by Þorsteinn Gissurarson, called "tól", who was a well-known
blacksmith. The water tub he used to cool hot iron can be seen south of the
churchyard."

During our stay in Iceland we have placed the cache on June 7th 2010,
which is a (glass) jar, by the church.
Please take your pen with you.

In our guide we read about a
viking temple in Hof but unfortunately we could not find it. Maybe you will
discover it, then take some pictures and post them in you log, please.

P.S.: Rotkaeppchen loves all the
sheeps here, especially the black ones.

P.P.S.: It would be nice if every geocacher had a new logbook to replace a full one. Thanks.
