Geocache Description:

Located Just outside Winchester city centre on an uphill gradent on the way from the city center. Parking is for permit holders only from 08:00 to 18:00 Monday to Saturday.

The Time At The Bar series will take you around the centre of Winchester to visit some of the gone and forgotten public houses that ceased trading long ago. The caches can all be done on a pleasant walk in one day in good weather or on their own. If you would like to learn a little more about Winchesters forgotten history, have a go at GC1279A which is a mystry cache created by Juggles. On the site here stood The Hero which stoped trading in 1906 having been in existance since before 1860 and became a privet house, untill nos. 22 to 34 were knocked down and replace with the current incumbent in 1974. At the bottom of the hill, just over the railway bridge is perninsular barracks. This was home to The King’s Royal Rifle Corps and The Rifle Brigade, although now coveted into some rather nice apartments it is still the headquaters of Regimental Headquarters of The Royal Green Jackets and houses the militry museams. Please rehide carefully.
