An ammo box deep in the woods
I like microcaches in clever locations, but this type of cache is my favorite. It is located in one of the best parks in the area. Hours are dawn to dusk, currently 7:00am to 6:00pm. Enter park at N28 15.135, W082 38.978.
You’ll have to earn this one, but will be well rewarded by the beauty and by seeing an area of the park that not many see. My track log shows that the round trip distance is about twelve miles.
One of the things I love about geocaching is that the route you choose to get there is up to you. Each person can have a totally different experience. There are many ways to get to this cache. A suggested parking location is at the Day Use area, located at N28 15.591, W082 38.333. You can hike the whole way or take your bike. If you don’t want to bike on the hiking trail, you could hide your bike near N28 14.536, W082 35.062 (about 2/3 of the way to the cache) and then enjoy a nice hike from there. I left the trail where a large tree had fallen at N28 14.959, W082 33.620 and had to do some light bushwhacking for about 100 yards from there to the cache.
Note: When I placed this cache in 2003 it was truly an outdoor adventure. Now it's easily accessible but seems to take a little searching to find. In any event, the park is beautiful and one of Florida's gems.
