A Fractured Fairy Tale Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Seth!: I just realized that this cache turned ten years old this week. It had a good run and set a high standard for geocaches. I am going to archive this and hope that whoever puts a new cache around here will take the time to make it interesting.

Maybe the reviewer can remove their previous note just to tidy the page.

Geocache Description:

I've always loved the Fractured Fairy Tales that appeared on Jay Ward's Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. This family-friendly multicache is an homage to those little gags. To introduce the geocache, I've written my own Fractured Fairy Tale.

~ Jack & The Beanstalk ~
A Fractured Fairy Tale by Seth!

nce upon a time, long ago, there was a young man named Jack. Jack lived in a quiet neighborhood with his mother and her boyfriend, a man who sold magic beans. It was common knowledge that Jack had as much sense as a box of rocks. His only intellectual peer was his friend, Martin, the giant. Together they owned a huge beanstalk. Although Jack and Martin were foolish, they were able to lease parts of the beanstalk at a decent profit.

The lower levels had small boutiques and retail outlets. Above these were studio apartments, most of which were occupied by grumpy gnomes. One day, Jack and Martin were playing 'Rock, Paper, Scissors', when they were interrupted by one of their tenants.

The piper in 3A is playing his music too loud again!” shrieked the little man. “Can’t you do something about him?” continue...

Once you have read the story, you'll be in the right frame of mind to hunt this geocache. (You did read the whole story, didn't you?) The posted coordinates are the First Waypoint. At this location, you will be looking for a three digit number near the word "friends". These digits will be ABC.

The Second Waypoint

 ABC + 427 = DEF
 ABC - 209 = GHI

 N 47° 38.DEF'
 W 122° 11.GHI'
Going to the Second Waypoint will take you just past Martin's Bathtub. It obviously has not been used in ages. You are looking for a date. These four digits will be WXYZ.

Final Waypoint - The Geocache

 WXYZ - 1881 = QRS
 WXYZ - 1635 = TUV

 N 47° 39.QRS'
 W 122° 11.TUV'

The Really Neat Stuff is here! The hut is long gone and you can no longer tell where it was. But the cache is still there, right where Jack left it. It is a metal can that will withstand the ravages of time.

In addition to the logbook, pencil, sharpener, and stash note, the geocache contained the following Really Neat Stuff when Jack hid it:

  • Magic Beans! (of course)
  • "Got Milk?" Stuff ('cause the cow no longer gives milk...)
  • Golden Geocoin (really nice)
  • Ancient NFL Cards (mint!)
  • Emergency Blanket
  • Decals, bubbles, Hotwheel car, keyrings...
  • and the Fractured Fairy Travel Bug!
There are not any clues in the story, in case you are wondering. But this is really pretty easy. The first two waypoints should be rather permanent. Please rehide the geocache well and cover your tracks. You won't have to go far off the trail. Have fun!
