Update: 5/20/2011 10 years ago today,
this cache was placed by
kimbo as the first geocache in the Sacramento area. I have been
given the honor of adopting and caring for it for the next 10
years. I replaced the container with a cammod lock and lock
measuring roughly 6x10x2. It is in the same spot as before. Happy
Birthday Granite Beek!
Update: 3/14/2004 - When first placed
(back in May 2001) there was no poison oak near this cache. The
situation has changed since then. There is poision oak growing very
close to this cache now. A careful person can still reach the cache
without coming into contact with the nasty stuff, but a careless
individual may end up scratching and itching in a day or two!
Please be careful!
Nice easy walk along trails through wooded area. Trails used by
Hikers, Bikers and Horses. Granite outcroppings are numerous in the
cache area. There is a $3 day use/entrance fee. There is also an
access point that bypasses the entry fee. Look for the Twin Rocks.
As in most recreation areas of California, beware of Posion Oak.
The cache area is free, I believe, of poison oak, but it dots the
area and can be seen from/along the trails.
This is the first cache I have "planted." It should not be
difficult to find. The cache itself is Gladware container measuring
about 6" x 9" with a blue translucent top.
