Geocache Description:

This is a rough trail that is constantly in repair. There is a man whom works on the trails that went to court to fight for this trail's right of way to a historical site and entrance to the forest. The first 50% of the hike is clean thanks to him! there is relatively very little elevation gain. approx 1 mi trailhead on the corner of rubio vista road and pleasantridge drive. this is not far off of rubio canyon road!

You may ask...how is this place haunted?? There have people who have died there! One in particular was a young child whom died when the Pavillion collapsed!

"Mrs. Drew was found hanging from the pipes in serious condition. Thayer was found dead in the morning under tons of wreckage, clutching the bodies of the dog and cat he ran back to save." (Mt. Lowe, Railway in the clouds - By Charles Seims, p.145)

Sometimes when I pass by there, I hear voices talking. I do not see any people! The rocks on the east hillside make noises too! It can get creepy...

after arriving in the section of the overgrown trail you will start to get closer to the streambed. here is where you will see the foundation ruins of the Mt. lowe railway, cable car house. It was formerly known as the Rubio Hotel and Pavillion. in this area between the streambed and the trail is the cache. it is in a clear tupperware container. The original contents of the cache is:

  • a big rig pez dispenser
  • a 20 year old hairbrush
  • a 15 year old watch
  • liquid camping soap
  • and a old motorola pager.
  • NOTE: these are original cache items and may not be there anymore if considerable time has elapsed.

These are the travel bugs that visited this cache, you can click them to find out where they are today!
