Geocache Description:

This is a quiet road with few cars and various gradients, perfect for hills training for cyclists. Some cyclists use this as a little warm up on their way up to Mt Glorious.

Climbing hills builds strength and improves cardiovascular fitness. It also helps raise your lactate threshold, which means you can stay aerobic at higher intensities. Climbing hills also has mental benefits. It is a chance to practise positive self-talk and perseverance. Getting to the top will give you a confidence boost and great sense of achievement.

Choosing an appropriate cadence is one way to get better at climbing hills. When going uphill, it is easy to let the speed of your pedal stroke gradually slow down. A slow cadence, using a high gear, uses fast twitch muscle fibres. Fast twitch muscles are used in short, high intensity efforts and they fatigue quickly. A fast cadence, using a lower gear, uses slow twitch muscle fibres. Slow twitch muscles are used in efforts requiring endurance and probably a better option on long climbs. Paradoxically, adding low-cadence drills on flat ground to your training may help improve hill climbs.

Road cleats are probably not recommended for this cache. Whatever transport option you choose for this cache, I hope you enjoy the journey. BYO pen.
