This historic train trestle (originally built in 1920 and refurbished in 2011) used to carry commercial logging steam trains across what is now reportedly one of the four largest wooden structures in the world.  It now links the TCT from the south end of Shawnigan Lake all the way north to Lake Cowichan, a popular 50 km bike ride on the old rail grade, with a number of places to start/end.  The trestle is as major tourist draw to our valley for train buffs, history buffs, engineering experts,  bicycling groups, and those that appreciate  spectaular scenery over river gorges.  Cachers are often seen in the area as well, as caches dot the Cowichan Valley Trail (TCT) throughout the valley and many are near the trestle itself. Those that are truly afraid of heights may not care to traverse over the Koksilah River 145 ft below. but can go down to a viewing platform that gives you the full perspective of the massive structure.      

If you plan on caching along the trail, there are caches in both directions from the trestle , great biking, almost flat. Cell reception is iffy around here so suggest you load your GPSr's before hand. A few additional parking spots are available on Renfrew Rd where it meets the trail. Other alternative parking spots are at the lot at end of Riverside Rd , for a shorter walk to the trestle or where Mountain Rd intersects the TCT about 2 km NW. ( see additional waypoints)
