Der Geologische Lehrpfad Hochstetten-Dhaun
hier wird den Besuchern ermöglicht einzelne Zeitabschnitte der Erdgeschichte dieser Region mit einer Auswahl typischer Gesteine sowie deren wirtschaftliche Nutzung näher kennen zu lernen.
Auf einer Weglänge von 3,5 km erhält der Wanderer an 11 Stationen Gelegenheit, einzelne Abschnitte der erdgeschichtlichen Entwicklung des Kirner Landes sowie eine Auswahl typischer Gesteine der Region näher kennen zu lernen. Schautafeln über die Kirner Hartsteinindustrie, ein noch heute bedeutender Wirtschaftsfaktor, informieren über die wirtschaftliche Nutzung der Gesteine.
Magma
heißt die Masse aus Gesteinsschmelze, die teilweise im oberen Erdmantel und der tieferen Erdkruste vorkommt. Die Temperatur von Magma beträgt zwischen 700 °C und 1250 °C ( dabei kommt es ganz auf die Zusammensetzung und die Druckverhältnisse an ). Die Fließfähigkeit von Magma ist die Ursache von Vulkanismus und hat großen Einfluss auf die Gesteinsbildung, da sich aus dem erstarrenden Magma Gesteine oder Magmatite bilden. Unterteilen kann man diese in:
• Plutonite ( Granit ), wenn das Magma in der Erdkruste langsam abkühlt und daher größere Kristalle bilden kann
• Vulkanite ( Basalt ), wenn das Magma beim Austritt an die Erdoberfläche schneller abkühlt.
Lava
Sobald das Magma an die Oberfläche tritt nennt man sie Lava. Die Bezeichnung “Lava“ rührt daher, dass es fließt, so lange seine Temperatur hoch genug ist. Die fließende Lava , sowie die nach einiger Zeit erstarrte Lava bezeichnet man als Lavastrom. Lava ist ein vulkanisches “Förderprodukt“ und gehört zur Gruppe der Vulkanite.
Basalt
Basalt ist eines von vielen "Produkten" vulkanischer aktivitäten und wird in dieser Region abgebaut und auch weiter verarbeitet.
Basalt ist ein basischer Ergussgestein. Es besteht vor allem aus einer Mischung von Eisen- und Magnesium-Silikaten mit Pyroxen und calciumreichem Feldspat.
Natürliche Gesteine sind wertvolle Rohstoffe für das Bauwesen und aufgrund ihrer vielfältigen Einsatzgebiete von alters her Bestandteil der Baukultur. Bereits die Römer verwendeten Basalt und andere Hartgesteine für das Anlegen ihrer Straßen; auch im Mittelalter waren diese Baustoffe für den Städte- und Festungsbau unentbehrlich.
