Once upon time there were a little people who lived in a beautiful fern (bracken) gully in an enchanted forest.
Over the many years they were there, many neighbors, some friends, some foes, had passed through their lives.
Many eclipses ago there were the bad men who came with trucks to dump their junk. But that was so long ago that the earth mother has swallowed most of it, and what remains is now homes for the little people of the gully and their pets the bees.
There also used to be the giant flying machines over the great fence. But many moons ago they left to go to a land far far away. The only trace that remains is the big fence that the tropical jungle has grown over.
And then there were the unicorns who moved in. No one knows for sure how many there are, but there are many. They come in different sizes and colors, not like what you see in fairytales of only white. The unicorns are friends to the people in the gully. They never eat the ferns, and they keep the roads clear for the little people. The little people especially like this, because now it is easy to visit the marshlands on a picnic, or their dear & beautiful friend Rapunzel. They sometimes even visit their cousin The Orange Ogre, he’s really not that scary when you get to know him. It is easy to go on the roads created by the unicorns, they don’t have to go through the thick bush anymore or climb giant fences. And now they can even visit the clever Professor Jones (Indiana is his first name) without needing to swim, because the unicorns have made open roads for them. They just have to be wise enough to choose the right road.
There are many animals who also live in the enchanted forest and visit the gully people. There are the snakes who protect them, the mongooses & cane rats to ride on, and the chameleons they play hide’n’seek with, sometimes a little dear will pass by for tea. At night, there is always a beautiful party happening with the lovely dancing lights of the fireflys.
But not so long ago there were more bad men who came to destroy the forest. They came to dig up the land and put concrete over everything. They were going to destroy the enchanted forest and all who live here. So the forest called a meeting for everyone who lives there, they decided that although they had lived peaceful lives, the only way to survive this time was to fight back. And so they declared a war on the bad men, all the bees & hornets made a flying squad, the people of the gully rode the unicorns into battle, the snakes hissed, and trees entwined. The bad men did not know what a war they had started, and in shock they fled. Some fled so fast in fear that they left their shoes behind. Those living in the forest cheered and celebrated. They know that one day soon the bad men will return, and they may not be able to win the next battle. But for now, they took the shoes left behind and hung them up in many places as a warning to all that the forest will not be given up without a fight.
If you are a kind and good person, the forest will let you enter and enjoy it. But please, you must always stay on the paths & roads made by the unicorns, as the people of the gully do not like strangers walking through their bedrooms, bathrooms & living rooms. If you are quiet enough, you may even meet some of those who live here in the enchanted forest, they are shy though, so may run the moment they see you. As you walk through the forest, you will see much of the history I have told you written in the forest’s life.
But a word of warning, the forest and those living in it will turn against you if you dare go further than the warning sign of the hanging shoes, those are the boundaries of the visitor area! Remember too that you must always leave the fences and gates closed at all times, to protect the unicorns of the forest, because they are not always clever enough to stay away from the roads.
