Geocache Description:

The Griggstown Grassland Preserve Geotrail is a unique journey through local New Jersey history across the scenic landscapes of the Griggstown Grassland Preserve. Participating cachers will have the chance to visit the grounds of the preserve, tour many interesting sites and discover cultural landmarks around this Franklin Township property.

The Griggstown Native Grassland Preserve is in the Stonybrook-Millstone watershed. The trail system in the Griggstown area covers 376 acres, but these trails connect to other trails that transverse the entire length of the 685 acre Ten Mile Run Greenway. The northern border of much of the property is bounded by Simonson Brook, with Coppermine Road as the southern boundary. The site contains both 102 acres of open fields and 583 acres of woodland. Historically the fields were row crops but more recently the property was used as a horse farm.

What is a Geotrail ?

A “geotrail” is a series of caches tied together by a common topic or theme and to showcase a historic location.

The Griggstown Geotrail consists of many different geocache types placed around the beautiful Native Grassland Preserve. The trail area covers 376 acres and will take several hours to complete (please plan sufficient time if you intend to complete it in one day). It is designed to be very family friendly and accessible by the greatest number of people, but some are hidden off the paved trail and not all wheelchair accessible.

Complete the Griggstown Geotrail by visiting all of the Griggstown Geotrail caches. Some of the caches contain the hidden coordinates for the final location, others hold the nine letters that will provide a secret word, when unscrambled.

Geocachers who complete the GRIGGSTOWN GEOTRAIL can receive a souvenir token of their adventure (one per registered geocaching name only). If interested, the Griggstown Geotrail final cache contains 4 x 6 official certificates, which need to be completed and turned in to obtain the Franklin Township Token.

The Griggstown Geotrail is designed to be family friendly and accessible by the greatest number of people, but some are hidden off the paved trail and are not wheelchair accessible.

This is an exciting project undertaken by Franklin Township and The Northern New Jersey Cachers, who have partnered up to develop and implement this geotrail for all to enjoy.

The Griggstown Geotrail caches are placed with the approval by Franklin Township and are the first hides under the new geocaching policy. Franklin Township now requires written permission for all hides.
