The Crow's Nest Cache

Big Crow Mountain is the higher of the two small mountains, known as "The Crows" west of the Village of Keene. This mountain offers wonderful views of 28 major Adirondack Peaks, many of them being part of the 46 highest. Views include the Great Range, Mt. Marcy, Giant Mt., Dix Mt., the summit Horn of Big Slide, Whiteface Mt., Cascade Mt. and Porter Mt.

Big Crow, and its lesser summit Little Crow, are also popular because of the short distance to the top. From Crow Clearing to the Summit of Big Crow it is 0.7 miles.

The most popular trailhead for Big Crow Mt. is located at Crow Clearing. To get to Crow Clearing take exit 30 off the NYS Northway and head north on Route 73 towards Lake Placid. When you reach the Village of Keene turn right on to Hurricane Road. Travel up this road till you reach O'Toole Lane which is a dirt road that is on your left.  At the end of O'Toole Lane is the Crow Clearing parking area and trailhead for Big Crow (left side of parking area) and Hurricane Mountain (right side of parking area).

After doing this short hike I highly recommend continuing back down the trail 0.2 miles to the junction of Big Crow and Nun-Da-Ga-O ridge.  The ridgeline hike offers more excellent views and can be seen on the map above.  Total distance of trip to the summit of Big Crow and then the Nun-Da-Ga-O ridgeline hike is approximately 6.5 miles.

The cache is a rather large camo'd container which can hold much swag and TB's.  Please DO NOT remove the container, you can access the contents by unscrewing the waterproof bottom portion.  To start I've included a bunch of great swag for kids, and a special FTF prize for the lucky cacher who finds this cache first!

Good luck and enjoy the cache and hike!!
