Dixons Beach is named after the family that farmed the area in the early 1900’s where the high schools is now located. North of this beach is Retreat Cove. A reef can be found a little further north of Retreat Cove, but I think it’s called Dixons Reef; why they didn’t call it “Retreat Reef” is unknown!
From the parking spot, do not go into the house that bears the same name as the reef, but use the signposted walking track. At low tide the reef is nice to explore; keep an eye on children and be careful on the steep banks.
