Geocache Description:

(byop)

This cache is part of the GOLD COAST POWER TRAIL.

A joint initiative by a group of local Gold Coast cachers.

Each cache is themed on a critter indigenous to the Gold Coast.

Most of the containers are small golden cache tubes with a logbook only and should be easy to find.

However, each participating cacher has one hide which may be more difficult!

This cache is named after a native Gold Coast (well, nearly) Fish called the "Saratoga".

From the Sweetwater Fishing Page.....

The Saratoga, is a freshwater bony fish. The southern Saratoga are native only to the Fitzroy River system in Central Queensland. There is some fossil evidence around Brisbane and the Gold Coast indicating a species was once native to the area. Saratoga have been stocked in various lakes outside of their natural range including the nearby Advancetown (Hinze Dam). It only takes a quick look at a Saratoga to get the idea they are a surface fish. Eyes on top of their heads and an almost flat back with no dorsal spines. Once spawning begins, one parent will carry the eggs (60-80) in their mouths until they hatch and will continue to carry the fry in their mouths for up to six or eight weeks. Saratoga are one of the most beautiful of all Australian native fishes and are a highly sought after aquarium fish.
