Among the great works of Albert Camus, La
Chute (The Fall) stands out as one of the best. There's a great
synopsis of it here.
This place reminds me of the protagonist's love for high, open
places. "I have never felt comfortable," he says, "except in lofty
surroundings. Even in the details of daily life, I need to feel
above".
That, and the fact that it's a novel about a man coming to terms
with his existence with a symbolic fall from grace but eventually
finding meaning in the face of absurdity, go a long way to
explaining the existential title of this cache.
