Rules of the race
Each team can enter the race with one trackable.
Physical (travel bug or travel tag) or virtual (self-made durable plates or tags with a tracking code) trackables can enter the race. We strongly recommend the use of previously unactivated trackables, acquired to take part in this race. You can buy new trackables in the club’s web shop SGK geoMarket. Trackables from the personal collection can enter the race if they were used to log personal travel exclusively and their tracking code was never revealed publicly (shown to other geocachers at an event, for example). In this case, the distance travelled should be set to zero before the start of the race. If it becomes known during the race that the tracking code was publicly known (someone logs the trackable as discovered at an event that took place before the start of the race), the trackable will be removed from the race.
To apply a racer, send us an e-mail to tbdirka@geocacher.si with the tracking code and link to the description of the trackable. Deadline for application is Wednesday, December 6, 2023.
The race will start by mass start on December 9, 2023. The race will end on December 8, 2024, at noon.
Winner of the race is the trackable with the largest distance travelled, logged on geocaching.com at the end of the race. Logs, entered after the end of the race, will not count towards the total.
SLO Geocaching klub account will retrieve all the trackables in physical and virtual possession and will log a Visited log for the event. The trackables will travel in the possession of club’s account to one of european geocaching centers, where they will be distributed at an event and/or randomly distributed in most frequently visited caches.
Retrieving the trackable or logging travel by the owner after the start of the race is forbidden. Grabbing and logging the trackables, owned by associated teams (family members with separate geocaching accounts), is deemed unfair and not in the spirit of the sport, but can not be monitored and controlled.
If the trackable is stuck in a cache or the hands of a geocacher, the owner can contact the cache owner or the current holder of the trackable and ask for assistance in getting the trackable to travel again.
Only the distance travelled from the cache to cache in the possession of a geocacher will count towards the total. Mailing the trackable or similar shortcuts are not allowed. Trackable owner must monitor the trackable log and promptly delete any logs that don’t refer to actual travel by themselves or upon request of the race organiser. Pay attention to logging of Locationless caches (virtual jump from current location to Seattle and back), Will Attend logs and backdated Found logs of virtual caches and EarthCaches (virtual distance gain can be massive).
The owners of the first three racers will receive tracakable prizes. Hopefully, there will be consolation prizes for the rest of the top 10 racers, racer (or racers) exactly in the middle and the last three racers. Also, a special intermediate sprint prize will be awarded to the racer, leading the race on May 2, 2024, at noon.
