This is part of a series of four micro geocoins that represent the traditional "Four Elements" of ancient Greek Natural Philosophy: earth, air, fire and water. And, as the "V. 2" suggests, it is the second such set that GeoSwag issued. The Greeks believed that all material things were made of various combinations of those four elements, while the planets, stars and other celestial objects were thought to be composed of a fifth element: aether, or quintessence, which now has the meaning of "central idea" or "essential nature". Other cultures have other forms of these Classical Elements, but they often are analagous to the Greek ideas. Now that we know more about the real elements, we recognize that wind, water and fire are the chief natural erosive forces that act on earth.
