This bug wants to travel around the country (or the world) to see other pieces of handmade Bobbin Lace (which can be found at museums, heritage festivals, historical displays, on antique clothing, at lace demonstrations and the like).
This piece of lace was made from 38 pairs of bobbins (thus 76 lengths of very fine thread). It took our mom 8 hours to make this one piece of bobbin lace. This specific piece of lace is called Binche (pronounced ban-sh) Lace, a pattern which originates from Belgium. Mom is an upstanding member of the Great Lakes Lace Group Inc.; to learn more, go to www.gllgi.org . This Travel Bug was created in honor of Mother’s Day, 2006 for Kathylacemaker: Mother of victorymike, Gvnagei and The Mad Poet
