Mazda Stories Geocaching Adventure Trackable
Mazda is intensely proud of its Japanese heritage, symbolised by this origami crane. The crane – a scared bird in Japan and a symbol of peace – is intimately linked with the manufacturer’s home town of Hiroshima, because it has become associated with the story of schoolgirl Sadako Sasaki. Sadako died of leukemia in 1955 having been exposed to radiation when an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. Sadako is famous for folding paper cranes, because in Japanese folklore if you fold a thousand paper cranes you are granted one wish, and Sadako wished to be well.
