I would hope that this bug would inspire the owner to replace a cache that was lost in the William Heise County Park with this bug as part of the original swag. If that is not possible, just keep her moving!
Metamorphosis is the series of developmental stages insects go through to become adults. Butterflies have four stages of life: egg, larva (the caterpillar stage), pupa (the chrysalis phase), and adult. It takes a butterfly just 30 to 40 days to complete its life cycle, with warmer temperatures generally being responsible for faster development. Just like the butterfly, many of our favorite geocaching spots in San Diego are going through metamorphosis as a result of the devastating destruction of the Cedar, Otay and Paradise fires that raged through our region in October of 2003. This travel bug is one in a series of similar butterfly bugs made to illustrate the quick transformation of these trails from scorched earth to lush green paradise. A photo of the “Metamorphosis Family” has been posted to this site. See how many you can collect. (catch and release only, please!)
