A Porte Cochère (French "Coach Getaway"), is a covered porch-like structure at a main entrance to a building, through which a horse and carriage could pass to provide arriving and departing occupants protection from the elements. There is a lovely one at Marylebone Station. Today’s walk also took you past the original Lord’s Cricket Ground. I didn’t realise there was an original (and indeed a second before the one we know now) nor that it was named after Thomas Lord, a cricketer who bought the land. 🏏
