About This Item

Our family has been raising and releasing monarchs for several years now. It started out as a fun educational science experience which became a love and a passion. Last year, we raised, tagged 50, and released over 100 total butterflies for their winter migration. One of the overwintering sites that is popular for Monarch butterflies is in El Rosario, Mexico. We would love for this little butterfly to make it's way down to Mexico and see if it can find any friends along the way. We'd love to see photos that anyone is willing to share.

It is so helpful to Monarchs to have milkweed gardens all across the country so that they have somewhere to lay eggs for the next generation. Populations have depleted throughout the years with the reduction in their natural habitat. Unfortunately, monarch caterpillars will only eat milkweed. If you're interested in learning more about Monarchs or possibly planting your own butterfly garden, here's a good place with some information to get you started: https://www.monarchwatch.org/rear/index.htm or https://www.monarchwatch.org/garden/

To learn more about the overwintering sites of Monarchs and to follow their migratory journey, another great resource for information can be found here: https://www.learner.org/jnorth/tm/monarch/MexicanOWSites3.html

PLEASE DO NOT KEEP THIS TRAVEL BUG, but move it along on it's journey as quickly as you are able. Thank you!
