To roam the great state of Wisconsin! Staying close to the Ice Age Trail to be specific.
Personally I have a love hate relationship with Wisconsin (no offense to you all). You see there’s this little “ultra trek” near Dundee, WI. This “race” requires each participant to cover 64 miles in 24hrs or less (unsupported). Easy you say? It’s in the dead of winter...
I’ve attempted this race four times never finishing the whole 64 miles. Beyond the obvious physically exhausting aspect the mental battle is the real challenge. You’re hiking all through the night with only an eight foot headlamp light to guide you. Once you get further in the race more and more people drop out. You may not run into another human for an hour or two. The temperature varies each year of course. One year it was warmer during the day so the snow was slush which turned to ice in the evening. The next year the temperature never rose above 16°. The race director states that there is only a 15% completion rate. That’s pure craziness and that’s why I have to try again.
