About This Item

this rock was picked up on the beach at cherry grove, south carolina a year or two ago. washed up on the shore the night before and i've had it ever since. i pick up rocks with holes in them out of curiosity. i find them unique. this one made it to my geo shelf and was given a travel tag. when you find this rock, give it a lift and drop it in caches from sea to shining sea. a trip to cherry grove would be nice. then drop back to visit sis and murrcat in due time.

Today the Rock visited the Mother of all rocks, Red Mountain! High atop Red Mountain, Vulcan is the world's biggest iron statue. The view is oustanding! It is named Red Mountain because of the rich deposits of iron ore in the soil -- literally, it's red! The resulting steel business is the foundation of Birmingham's growth.

  • The rock admires the view
  • Cross-section of mountain
  • You're standing on it!
  • The motherlode!
