Current Goal

Since the Tasmanian Devil (Sarcophilus harrisii) has been endemic to Tasmania for the last 3200 years and thrives in temperate climates, Tank would like to visit as many degrees of temperate latitude north and south of the Equator as possible (23-66 degrees latitude).

Note: if in Tank's travels the dolerite creates problems which hinder his ability to travel, Tank is okay with not having the dolerite capsule with him.  He asks that pedallingtomove is notified if you remove the dolerite so that he can update his profile on the Geocaching platform.

About This Item

Temperate Tank w. Info Sheet and Dolerite

Hey, I'm Tank and I'm a Tasmania Devil  (Sarcophilus harrisii) ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasmanian_devil ). We are a carnivorous scavenger marsupial that has been endemic to Tasmania for the past 3200 years before which we resided on mainland Australia as well ( https://www.australiangeographic.com.au/news/2018/01/tassie-devils-and-thylacines-went-extinct-from-the-mainland-at-the-same-time/ ).  We got our name of "Devil" due to European settlers in Tasmania believing our growl sounded like the Devil was within earshot.  We have one of the strongest jaws for our weight in the world which we use to crunch through animal carcasses.  We are distantly related taxonomy-wise to the Tasmania Tiger (Thylacinus cynocephalus) which is now extinct due to overhunting for their uniquely patterned fur.

SamIAm1998 who is studying geology procured some Jurassic Dolerite ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diabase ) from the Tasman Peninsula which will accompany me on my journey to remind me of home.  It's a common rock found in Tasmania with Tasmania having a large amount of dolerite compared to the rest of the world.  The Tasman Peninsula has some very interesting geological formations and also has the highest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere and is home to Shipstern Bluff: home to some of the biggest surfing waves the world has to offer.

I'm looking forward to visiting as many degrees of temperate latitude north and south of the Equator as possible (23-65 degrees latitude) on my trip and I look forward to meeting all the cachers I can on my journey.

Thank-you to pedallingtomove and SamIAm1998 for making my trip possible!

After loging the cache I had to go back to get this one as it was in the bottom of the Cache and I have an adventure for it. This little Devil will trave with Far from grey1 for the next month on an Islands adventure. Stay tuned.
