About This Item

Mr. Lunchbox

Mr. Lunchbox is a working man, with a yellow hard hat and jacket, and, high-visibility orange working pants. He is ready to get busy!

DESTINATION: NAURU!

This trackable is part of my series, "DESTINATION: NAURU!"

It has come to my attention that there are only two countries on the face of the earth without any geocaches -- North Korea (and I ain't goin' there), and the Republic of Nauru. Well, I'm probably never going to make it to Nauru, but it's a fascinating little country, and should deserves to have at least one geocache. To get the ball rolling, I'm going to try to send some trackables that way. While there won't be a geocache to place them in, perhaps it will get the conversation started with some of the locals, and pique their interest sufficiently to encourage one of them to to place a cache.

Formerly known as Pleasant Island, the Republic of Nauru is a small, geographically isolated island nation in the Central Pacific region of Micronesia. It attracts very few tourists (fewer than 200 per year), but is home to many foreign workers, so there is a reasonable amount of traffic through the one aiport on the island. It has a fascinating geological history, so would be a good candidate for an Earthcache. Once home to a lucrative phosphate mining operation, the island has since fallen on challenging economic times. Nauru can be reached by direct flights from Brisbane, Australia, and via direct flights from other Pacific islands -- but it's not easy.
