About This Item

PATIENT # 290 - DYLAN

Meet Dylan, patient # 290 in on our ongoing study of the spread of the zombie plague via geocaching.  Dylan was a street sweeper operator from New Jersey.  His job allowed him to keep anything he found while cleaning the streets, and in his home he had a unique collection of his treasures.  His collection included a mummified camel, a ’64 Mustang engine, and every issue of Time Magazine.  He also found a few misplaced geocaches, which led him to geocaching.com and an interest in the hobby.  Dylan became obsessed with his number of finds, and was known amongst other area geocachers to be a bit competitive.

We believe that Dylan contracted the zombie plague from Devin, patient #142 in our study of the zombie plague.  We know that Devin organized a Leap Year flash mob event at an Ihop in central New Jersey.  We know that Devin considered not going because he was not feeling well and had flu symptoms, but since he organized the event he felt compelled to attend.  In a picture uploaded to the event page, we see that Devin licked a drip of syrup off the syrup dispenser after pouring syrup over his buttermilk pancakes.  Dylan posted to the event log that this was his 6000th geocaching milestone, and that he thought his waffles could have been a little bit more well-done.  Within a few days Dylan began showing flu like symptoms that we now know are signs of the early zombie plague.  He no longer cared about his number of geocaching finds, and suddenly only cared about eating human flesh.

This travel bug is part of a larger study to take a closer look at how the zombie plague might propagate if the primary vector for spreading the disease was geocaching.  Please visit the following website for further details, and a visualization of how the disease has propagated thus far based on the movement and discovery of this and other infected Zombie travel bugs:
