Current Goal

This trackable has the goal to circulate more than five years and to be moved by more than 25 cachers. That is a rate of five drops per year for five years, or a drop every 73 days.  As of 5-Apr-21 it had survived for 5.2 years but it had been moved by only 24 cachers, for an average release every 79 days.

No permission is needed to leave the U.S.  While in the U.S., please drop it in a Premium Member only OR a rural cache near a busy trail or road. Do not place it in an urban cache or abandon it at a caching event where there is no security.  Transport the bug in the original plastic bag for as long as the bag lasts; the bag keeps the trackable clean, protects the number and prevents tangling with other items.  Otherwise, take the trackable anywhere you wish.

About This Item

beadblueredceramic

This is one of a series of large beads obtained from different places and converted into travel bugs.  They are named for Texas towns with interesting names or histories.

Hogeye is in north central Hunt County.  It was probably established before 1858, when a Masonic lodge was constructed there.  The community is named for the symbolic eye of the Masonic order, which looked "to some of the unlettered natives" like a hog's eye.  The first floor of the lodge functioned as a community school until the lodge was moved to Kingston and then to Celeste in 1886.  Hogeye declined as nearby Celeste grew with the arrival of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway in 1886.  The 1984 county highway map showed a community hall at Hogeye.
