Current Goal

The goal of this hitchhiker is to travel the great U.S. and have fellow geocachers record their encounters and explain any connection that they may have with the Armed Services. I also hope that this makes it back home to Wisconsin some day.

Found Parent's Pride Patch in the Tucson Bugport. As a Coast Guard Brat, I will carry it with the pride of a son for his father who served in the U.S. Coast Guard for nearly 30 years (after starting in the Air Force before that). My Dad, Paul Scotti, served a tour of duty in Vietnam on 82 ft. patrol boats along the coast of the Vietnam and completed his career as a Chief Warrent Officer in Public Affairs. Check out his book, Coast Guard Action in Vietnam to find out more about what this little recognized service contributed to the efforts in that conflict.

I was thrilled to come across this bug. I spent 10 years in the Air Force. Those years were split between the 357th Tactical Fighter Training Squadron, 333 Fighter Squadron and the 354th Fighter Squadron. I also had a number of special duty assignments along the way. All of my time in was spent in squadrons that flew the A-10 Warthog.

Got to see a lot of this big world, not bad for a kid from Idaho.

We will get this bug moving again real soon so that it can see some of this big world. We will consider it's time with us as a TDY.

My grandfather was a colonel in WWII; my father was in the reserves in Vietnam, and my uncle in the Air force. I have a good friend in the Navy and another currently over seas in Spec Ops in Afghanistan. I thank them and everyone for fighting to keep our freedoms!

We actually found this in the Mt. Olga cache (GC531A). It was not logged as being there and in fact, the cache page shows a different bug. We will try and get Pride to visit either the Bennington Monument or the military museum along Route 9. The next cache stop will probably be a Bug Hotel down in MA.
