Nearly 90 miles long the ditch brought water from the Chatanika River drainage near Faith Cr. to Goldstream Creek just above Fox. Conceived by Norman Stines, mining engineer, the route was surveyed by James Davidson and built by George Metcalf and J B Lippencott. Route Survey began in 1924, R/W clearing started April 1926 and project was completed May 1928. The ditch brought 180,000 gal water/day using open canal with a gradient of 2.1 ft./mi., 15 inverted siphons, 46 and 56 in. in diameter and a 0.7 mi. long water tunnel connecting the Chatanika and Goldstream Cr. drainages. With temprorary closure for World War II it supplied water for dredging until 1952 and continued to produce power for the Chatanika dredge until high waters during the 1967 flood damaged the water diversion structure at the head end of the ditch.
