Gen, the little pony would like to return to East Aurora, NY, the home of Fisher-Price Toys and the home of her geocaching grandparents.
Fisher-Price Toys was founded in the 1930's by Herman Fisher, Irving Price, Price's illustrator wfe Margaret Evans-Price, and Helen Schelle. Fisher worked previously in manufacturing, selling, and advertising games. Price had retired from a major variety chain store, and Helen Schelle previously worked in the Penny Walker Toy Shop.
Fisher-Price's fundamental toy-making principles centered on intrinsic play value, ingenuity, strong-construction, good value for the money, and action. Early toys were made of heavy steel parts and ponderosa pine, which resisted splintering wood and held up well to heavy use. Mrs. Price was the first art director and designed push-pull toys based on characters from her children's books.
In the 1950's. plastic was identified as a material that could help the company incorporate longer-lasting decorations and brighter colors into its' toys. Fisher-Price has created approximately 5,000 different toys since the 1930's. One of the best-known lines is the Little People toys, which includes people and animals along with the play sets. The figures, which were originally wooden-peg designs, are all now made of molded plastic and have detailed features.
