Current Goal

GOAL: Please send me around the coast - of Britain and the world, and if there is a pier please take a photo!  I would like to return to Weston super Mare before the pier burns down for a third time!

 

 

 

About This Item

This trackable is a token from the Grand Pier Weston super Mare, Somerset, UK. 

The pier was originally built in 1903 and had a theatre and music hall on it. Unfortunately it burned down in 1930. It was rebuilt three years later and became a fun fair type of attraction. It was changed to a penny arcade with slot machines and rides in the late 60s/early 70s. My grandmother used to love to visit us and saved up all her pennies through the year and we would go on the pier and spend them all. It was amazing how much fun you could have with 1d! The token is from around 2007.

The pier burned down again in 2008 but was rebuilt in a slightly more modern design reopening in 2010.

    I was on holiday when the pier at Weston burnt down in 2008. Sat in my caravan awning early listening to Bristol Air Traffic Control. A light aircraft reported the pier was on fire, and while no Fire
    engines were on scene, he reported he could see them en route. Will take to Yorkshire and move on.
